Thanksgiving – 2009
Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will
for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18)
There is a saying that there is nothing more frustrating for an atheist than to have something happen in his life for which he is thankful, because he doesn’t know to whom he should give thanks. As Christians, we don’t have that frustration because we know whom to thank.
I think it is fitting that our Thanksgiving happens at a time when we can witness God’s beauty in such a particular way, that is, the leaves changing colour – a reminder that God is the one responsible for this beauty. His blessings surround us continuously and it is appropriate that we give thanks.
Sometimes we may think that there’s not much to be thankful for as we take God’s gifts for granted. The fact is that all we have is from God; and, a most precious gift comes when we are able to acknowledge this. Of course, the greatest gift of all is the gift God has given us in His Son Jesus Christ.
As we gather with family and friends during this holiday, I pray that we will be very much aware of, and thankful for all that our Heavenly Father provides.
I also give thanks for each of you and pray that this Thanksgiving will be a special time for you and your families.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Don Hamilton
