Father Don's

Advent letter

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we begin the season of Advent, the traditional call from Scripture is: “Are you ready?”  This is a profound question. When asked, we may immediately think of being challenged about being ready for end times; however, Advent is not about an end, but a beginning. It marks the beginning of a new life of hope and promise because of the coming of Jesus and the difference that can make for each of us.

Because we live extremely busy lives, it is good to reflect on and renew this beginning and explore exactly what it means for us personally.  Advent therefore is a time that is set aside in the church year for such reflection. It is also a time of great expectation as we anticipate the coming of Jesus and how God chose to send His Son, not as a mighty warrior to subdue us, but as a humble and helpless baby who knows our joys and hopes as well as our pain and anguish, and walks with us faithfully through it all.

As we continue to seek the Lord’s will for our parish and for our individual lives, I pray that this Advent season will be a time to realize God’s immeasurable love for each of us, and for us to experience the wonderful Peace of Christ in our homes and lives during this holy season, and always.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Don Hamilton
